Sightseeing 
The town of Wynyard is a quaint area with a pleasant blend of history and beautiful scenery. There are beautiful river walks, historic walks through the old cemetery, cliff top walks at fossil bluff and table cape, magical forest walks through Oldina reserve and dip falls to name a few.

Take a walk to the Wynyard tourist information centre and have a chat to the dedicated volunteers. They know this town back to front and will soon have you taking the best walking path suited for your time and interests. And if that's not enough for you, our new and improved information centre, now in Dodgin street, has it's very own vintage car museum, complete with the world's oldest ford, only one of two in the world, on display for your viewing pleasure. 

For a list of Wynyard walks follow this link: Wynyard Walks  Take a stroll along the Inglis river following the river walk. This is a fairly easy walk and offers tranquil respite from the world, with only the river and the odd mooing cow for company. The information centre have an excellent brochure with all the river tracks. Even better- bring your kayak or rent ours.  A kayak along this river is pure magic!

Penguin's on Parade
take a tour with Keith our resident penguin tour guide. Keith's approach to the penguins is completely unobtrusive, and you will get a rare opportunity to come up close and personal with the penguins.  Ask at reception for further information. (Note his tours run during peak penguin viewing season which is generally around Christmas time and over summer)

Take a stroll back in time at Fossil bluff. Fossils here are really, really old, don't ask me how old, they're just old.  Well, I was told once by a guest who was a geologist visiting especially to check out the rocks and fossils, but I just can't remember at the time of writing this how old they fossils are.  But have a look for yourself at the fossils, then take a walk up to the top of the bluff for a beautiful view out over the golf course and sea. 

Okay- I have some more information on Fossil Bluff! Fossil Bluff just east of the Beach is a sandstone Bluff, with layers of fossils encased in the stone. This Bluff was beneath the sea in the Oligocene geological period (about 38 million years ago), and it lies on top of the tillite. As you walk around the Bluff (at low tide) you will be able to see where the sandstone and tillite meet. Some of the layers of sandstone are rich in fossils, while others are not, showing the different climatic conditions that occurred during the millions of years of the Oligocene period. The fossils are not dissimilar to many of the shells found today. Please do not take specimens of fossils from the Bluff.

National Parks
Visit one of the most beautiful national parks in Tasmania, Rocky Cape National Park. Never heard of it?  It's still a bit of a secret, but word is definitely getting out.  You will need to get a National Park pass from the Rocky Cape Tavern, or Tourist information centre in Wynyard. 
It promises spectacular coastline walks and preserved caves occupied by the original aboriginals in the area some 8000 years ago. The coastal heath land is beautiful at any time of the year, winter or summer, and being a smallish park, you need only a day or two to see it in all  it's beauty. Emu Valley Rhododendron Garden - Near Burnie The Garden covers a 13 hectare site with over 15,000 plants already planted. It is set in a natural amphitheatre sloping towards the Emu River. The site has a series of lakes, and features areas of Manferns and Blackwood trees.
